Imam Tariq Rasheed

Imam Tariq Rasheed joined the Islamic Center of Orlando in July 1993. He is from Lucknow, India. Imam Rasheed got early education at a Catholic British school in Lucknow. In 1980 he left that school and joined Madarsa Furqania in Lucknow to memorize the Holy Quran. In 1983 he finished memorization of Quran. in 1985 he joined the University of Lucknow from where he took degrees of Bachelor in English Literature in 1987 and Mater's in Arabic Literature in 1989. Simultaneously in 1987 Imam Tariq joined the world renowned Islamic University of Nadwa, Lucknow ( Darul Uloom Nawatul Ulema) as a student in the Alim course. He completed the five years Alim course with honors in 1992. In 1992 he joined Ifta ( Mufti course ), He was conferred Ijazah of Hadith by Shaikh Abul hassan Ali Nadwi (R.A.). In 1993 he came to USA.

Imam Rasheed continued his studies in US.. He joined University of Central Florida in 1997. He received the degree of Masters in Educational Leadership from the UCF. Currently he is enrolled in the PhD program.

Imam Rasheed is working at the ICO since 1993. He is doing variety of activities for the community. Some of the are as follows:

• Speech before Juma Salah
• Weekly Dars of Quran
• Weekly Arabic Language classes
• Short lessons of Hadith after Fajr & Isha salah
• Weekly Youth class on Islamic Studies
• Weekend Quran class
• Counsellor on Family issues of the community
• Credible source for the community to get answers to Islam related Questions and Quarries through emails, phone and in person.
• Runs & Teaches Hifz of Quran school. ( so far 24 students became Hafiz from this school)
• Dawah to non Muslims:He has been invited to deliver speeches on Islam at Churches, synagogue's, schools and colleges.
• Volunteer Chaplin at Dr. Phillip's Hospital, Orlando
• Developed close relationship wth Youths
• Marriage Counsellor at the Orange County
• Editor of Al Huda Magazine
• Author of "Backbiting: An Islamic Perspectve'' Currently n ts 2nd edition
• Founder of the Islamic Studies Chair at UCF called "AL Ghazali Chair of Islamic Studies"
• Selected by the Orlando Sentinel on Sep 9th 2007 to be the "Spotlight person of the Orlando Community".
